A former mother in law, as her daughter was leaving, told me that she ‘broke her back’ and ‘worked her fingers to the bone’ trying to make a home for me and my children. Saying that I was unaware because each of those would have required immediate medical attention was apparently the wrong approach.
You hear these phrases all the time and you can bet that most of the time it means that the person is being less than truthful or as a former boss used to say, ‘Telling the truth attractively’. Since we were only married for 14 months, nine of which she was pregnant, I seriously doubt that neither one of those incidents occurred.
Her mother’s parting shot was, “You had it all!”. I replied,”Well I used to have it all but thanks to your daughter, I now have nothing.” Yes I know that there are usually two sides to most any divorce, but in 14 months? I think it takes a lot of work to do that without the help from one party.
Oh well, what’s done is done. I guess she kept her nose to the grind stone too, which again I think I might have noticed. “Honey, your face looks different. I can’t put my finger on it but, woah, have you seen your fingers? They’re a bloody mess! Good Lord, woman, your nose is gone, your fingers are worn off and you can’t seem to get up off of of the floor! That’s it! I want a divorce post haste!” Click here for tons of FREE short and funny blogs!
