Happy Earth Day! What the heck do you get the earth on its celebrated day? I thought maybe a new ozone layer but do you know how much those things cost? Way out of my price range. I guess just a recycled card.
Earth day is ok I guess, but what purpose does it really serve? Awareness, I’m told. Well I already know that I live on Earth and that I’m supposed to recycle, don’t change the oil in the car myself (like that would ever happen), conserve fuel and energy…
We’re supposed to leave the earth a better place for our future generations, but is that realistic? I know! First it was paper over plastic bags at the grocery store which then turned into buying your own recycled reusable bags.
When we were in Hawaii, we went to a grocery store and the cashier asked us if we’d like to buy reusable bags. We declined. Suddenly everything was paid for and just sitting there and the cashier was just looking at us as if to say “Good luck”. There was no other option so we bought them.
I get it. Natural gas and electric cars, take the train or bus to work, don’t let your car idle at a drive through which leads me to believe we’ll next be told to do the same when we’re stopped at a red light, compost piles, no Styrofoam and no real fires in the fireplace or outside in a firepit. Probably hundreds of more things we ‘should’ be doing.
I stopped buying news papers and throw the stupid phone books that are still published into the recycle bin within seconds of arrival. That’s my contribution. You’re welcome.
