“I was coming home from kindergarten–well they told me it was kindergarten. I found out later I had been working in a factory for ten years. It’s good for a kid to know how to make gloves.” ~Ellen
Ellen Degeneres is one of my all time favorite comedians. I could never get enough of her stand up act. The joke above is one of my favorites. That said, I can’t stand to watch her talk show or game show. I know!
The reason I don’t like her shows is that there is so much shameless self promotion. We watched her game show last night and there were so many pictures and caricatures of her face on it. Some of the questions for her contestants were also geared towards the answer being ‘Ellen’.
Examples: “Who wrote the book ‘Seriously… I’m just kidding…’? She did, of course. Then ‘Name a person who has at least 50,000 Twitter followers.’ When the contestant failed to name any, Ellen’s response was, “Like me.” Then in the final round the contestant had to name ten celebrities when their pictures came up. Who was among them? Do I need to even answer the question?
Watch the show. You’ll see what I mean. That kind of self promotion from someone who is already so famous she can be known only by her first name sickens me. It’s difficult for me to try to promote my products on my blog or on Facebook. Ellen doesn’t need to self promote. We all know who she is and she already has millions of fans.
Maybe I’m just mad because the computer generated confetti background during one segment caused me to have a seizure, but I’m pretty sure it’s the other thing.
