The last time we were visiting kids and grandkids, I called a hotel and asked how much they charged for a room. The clerk said the rates depended on room size and number of people. I asked him if they took children. He said, “No, sir… nor checks!”
I laughed out loud because he caught me off guard and it was funny. Kind of like the one the customer asks the waiter “Do you serve crabs here?” The waiter says, “We serve anyone, ma’am. What can I get for you?”
I’m sure we’ve all heard that joke or one like it. Or when the waiter asks, “Do you want a box for that?” And you say, “OK, but I’m pretty sure I can take you.” That’s a classic too. Or the guy in the hardware store who sees a sign that reads “Cast iron sinks” and the guy says, “That’s stupid, everyone knows that.”
It’s kind of fun to think of funny things to say to people, so long as they’re not insulting. I also like playing pranks on telemarketers. One called a couple of days ago. I answered the phone with a gruff “Hello”. He asked me if I was Jerry Mabbott. I said “No. This is detective Williams from homicide. How do you know the deceased?” The guy freaked out when I kept pressing him for answers and hung up. He’ll be talking about that call for the rest of his life! Hehe, heh, heh.
