On our neighbors 20th anniversary, they went out to dinner. When they got home there was a note from their kids that read “We baked a cake for you and we’re all staying at Grandma’s tonight. Do things that we wouldn’t do.” The wife said “Well maybe we should vacuum.”
Kids just don’t seem to do the obvious things that need to be done in the house or yard. For boys, that never seems to change as we grow into adulthood. We still have the tendency to wait for our wives to tell us what to do. We can leave dishes in the sink each night and it doesn’t seem to bother us. It drives so many women nuts! They need to wake up to a clean kitchen.
Obviously not this bad, but you get the idea. I’m in charge of cleaning the kitchen and the bathrooms. It’s more than fair since my wife works full time and I’m disabled and stay home. I do everything for her in the morning before she goes to work. I make coffee, iron her clothes, get her medications out along with a glass of water. I put out her coat and pack her lunch.
She likes to have some string cheese to eat on the way to work so I also put in the half hour it takes to open one. Why do I do these things? Obviously I love my wife, and it’s my way of saying thank you for going to work each day. Plus a happy wife equals a happy life, right? She does a lot of work on the weekends around the house. She vacuums and mops the hard wood floors, washes clothes, etc.
After 20 years she has stopped complaining about me doing things the wrong way. I do the dishes the way I want and fold the towels the way I want. I think she’s just grateful that I do these things. Plus Oprah says it’s sexy for a man to do these things although I don’t think so. I think it’s just plain bribery. Bribery that any guy in his right mind will gladly accept.
