I Forgot The Words!!

Do you know why hummingbirds hum? They forget the lyrics.

I love birds. All of them. If I wasn’t too busy using my binoculars to spy on my neighbors, I would be an avid bird watcher. Hummingbirds are my favorite. I’m impatiently waiting for them to arrive next month! The bird feeder is already out and ready a month early.

Hummingbirds are amazing little creatures. They burn so much energy just flying and hovering, it’s a wonder that they are able to migrate. They find enough nectar along the way to do it, which is wonderful. Summer and fall would not be the same without them.

So, as I eagerly await their return, I observe robins, blue jays, crows, smaller birds and occasionally an eagle. If I’m really fortunate, I’ll see the majestic bald eagle.

I once had finches. They require a wooden cage and a lot of fresh air. I did everything I was supposed to, but I didn’t realize that their lifespan is very short. It was too much of a bummer to keep replacing them, so I stopped. They were so much fun to watch.

I’ve also had a parakeet and a cockateil. I would love to get a parrot, but they are just too expensive. Besides, to quote Kevin James from a “King of Queens” episode, “I don’t want a pet that is going to outlive me”. I know that the right birds can be wonderful companions, whether kept as an appropriate pet or to simply observe. I find it very soothing.

When I was in the U.K., I went bird watching often, but that was completely different.
