The last time I worked in an office, I was having a lot of problems with my computer. I called the IT guy. He pressed a couple of buttons and voila, it was working perfectly. He said it was just an ID 10 T problem, a term I had never heard of before so I decided to make a note just in case I ever had the problem again. id10t. Jerk.
I’m actually pretty good with computers. I used to have friends who were techs come over and fix problems I was having. Finally, I did enough research and discovered a few helpful tidbits. Things like getting rid of unwanted programs and programs you never use. Oftentimes they are running in the background using your computer’s memory, causing it to run slower.
If you find that your computer is as slow as Jeb Bush, you should consider cleaning it out. If you get a new computer for Christmas this year, as soon as it’s connected to your wifi, do a search for a few problems that are free and very helpful. One is called “decrapify”. It gets rid of all of the junk programs manufacturers load onto new computers.
With your computer running faster now, I recommend a couple of other free programs. “Glary Utilities” is one that I like. It cleans out and manages your computer registry which is important. I love a program called “Revo Uninstaller”. It’s much better for removing programs yourself because it also finds and lets you get rid of all of the residual files that would normally be left behind, freeing up valuable space.
Don’t pirate music and movies. Beside the fact that it is illegal and immoral in my opinion, these files can carry viruses and malware which start running on your computer. They hide themselves pretty well and will hijack the computer and you’ll notice it but probably won’t be able to find them.
Those of you techies out there know what you’re doing already but for those of us still trapped in the ID 10 T mode or our computers are slower than OJ Simpson’s get away car, we need basic help. I recommend “Open Office” rather than spending a small fortune on “Microsoft Office”. You can do everything as Office does and it’s free! Oh and defrag your hard drive once a month.
