Heather and I were sitting in the living room discussing a living will. I said, “Just so you know, I never want to live in a vegetative state, dependent on some machine and fluids from a bottle. If that ever happens, just pull the plug.” Heather got up, unplugged the TV and threw out all of the beer.
I love television. I watch a lot of it. I’ll watch the real life crime shows, movies and my favorite shows. Like, “Blue Bloods”, “Modern Family”, “The King of Queens”, “American Idol”, “Big Bang Theory”, etc. But on the top of my list this time of year, are the NFL playoffs.
I, like millions of other people, am an NFL junkie. And I have no problem with that. I watch live games, I’ll DVR games if I have to be somewhere. I’ll watch edited games on “NFL Rewind”, I’ll even watch games from 30 or 40 years ago. I have to, if I want to watch the Miami Dolphins in the Super Bowl.
I have always liked the Dolphins. I was a big fan of Don Shula, long time head coach of the Dolphins and the coach who still holds the record for the most victories in NFL history. He was fired by The Baltimore Colts, I think, and when he ended up in Miami a couple of years later, I was a fan.
There were very exciting things ahead, like winning back to back Super Bowls, having the only perfect season, where they won every single game they played in 1972, a record which still stands today. While I’m thrilled with their past success, they haven’t been to the Super Bowl since 1984, when hall of fame Dan Marino burst on the scene.
They would still make the playoffs, but would mostly get knocked off in the first round. Now they can’t even make it to the playoffs. Last year and this year, all they had to do was knock off a couple of losing teams and they would go to the playoffs. They just couldn’t get it done.
So, we Dolphin fans had to settle for another mediocre 8 – 8 season and hope things will get better next year. In the meantime, there’s American Idol and this season I’m actually watching “The Bachelor”. Why? Because my beautiful niece, Juelia Kinney is one of the contestants! I know!
Now, if you’ll excuse me, the first game today starts in 20 minutes.
See you tomorrow.
